Some couples want to marry but feel that the wedding ceremony is something very private and personal that they don’t wish to share or sometimes they just feel a bit shy of being the centre of attention. A runaway wedding is when two people run off and get married without telling a soul about their plans until the ceremony is over. I am lucky enough to photograph many “runaway” weddings every year and I have to say they are my favourite ceremonies to capture. It is such a privilege to be asked to capture such a wedding especially when you consider that not even the parents of the couple are present. With only the couple to photograph for the time you are with them it is important to have a sensitive approach towards the wedding photography so that you don’t draw too much attention to your presence, thus allowing the couple to enjoy the intimacy of the moment. My number one venue for runaway weddings has to be the wonderful Millbrook Estate in Devon. An absolute oasis of calm and beauty. With time a plenty, runaway weddings allow a wedding photographer to slow down and take more time over the couple photographs. At a typical large wedding I might only have 15 minutes to get some good couple shots, at a runaway wedding I usually have a good hour and a half.

For well over a decade now my wedding business has been built around big Saturday weddings with upwards of 100 […]
If you regularly read my blog you will know how much I adore dogs at weddings! It has been wonderful lately as I seem to be attracting more dog friendly weddings. Maureen and Bob contacted me at the beginning of the year to tell me about her plans for a runaway wedding at Millbrook Estate […]
My last wedding before an Autumn break was at the beautiful Millbrook Estate. When I first spoke to Gill on the phone she explained that she wanted the photography to not be too formal but to capture the important parts of the day in a natural, candid way – also conveying the beauty of Millbrook. As […]
I adore runaway weddings at Millbrook, it feels such an honour to be photographing such a private and personal celebration. When I arrived with Edwina and Paul my first word was WOW, Edwina looked stunning, I loved her style and knew she would look amazing in the photographs. Edwina had asked for a old, vintage […]
I was delighted when Lucy got in touch to ask me to be her wedding photographer at Millbrook Estate. The wedding was to be a runaway wedding with the only guest being Bruce – a miniature English Bull Terrier. Those of you that know me personally will know that I am somewhat obsessed with dogs….so […]
